About Honeoye Falls - Mendon Volunteer Ambulance

The Honeoye Falls Ambulance was founded in 1963 and has been in operation and servicing our community for over 44 years

Our first ambulance was a yellow Hurst-style caddie
similar to the one picture below.

How Ambulances have changed over the years

The ambulance originally had 13 founding members some of which included Robert Warren, Ted Alfieri, Robert Grieveson, Bud Ripley and Stuart Caves

The original name of the Ambulance Corp was the Honeoye Falls Rescue Squad.

Presently the Corp is known as the Honeoye Falls Mendon Volunteer Ambulance.

Today we use this type of PCR (Patient Care Report) for our documentation.

When the Honeoye Falls Rescue Squad first went into service we were stationed at the
Honeoye Falls Fire House located on Monroe Street.

In the Early Days of Emergency Medical Services

In the Early Days of Emergency Medical Services

Care given in the early days was basically pick up the patient and transport to the nearest hospital .  This was considered load and go.

…Then
Ambulances were simply a way to get a person to the hospital while administering basic first aid and oxygen.

...Now
Ambulances are mobile emergency departments, capable of administering lifesaving advanced medical procedures en route to the hospital.

In 1987 HFMVA applied for and received certification from New York State for ALS (Advanced Life Support).

Founding members and the first ALS techs Were Pat and Phil Kasper, Margot Shepard, Kay Bushman,
Scott Hume, Ron Evans and Mark Marchase.

Today’s Advanced Life Support Technician

Types of care ALS Techs can provide today include the following: •IV therapy,•EKG interpretation•Administer medications including cardiac meds, and meds for allergic reactions and respiratory distress•
Intubation – a respiratory tube that helps a patient to breathe
•Rapid Sequence
Intubation technicians provide medications to help transition patients for endotracheal intubation

•Defibrillation – electrical shock to heart
•NYS Narcotic certified being able to provide pain management for our patients
At this time we can provide the best prehospital care that a community can offer.

We are very fortunate in our community to be able to offer this level of care.

The Honeoye Falls Mendon Ambulance Building

In 1995 the ambulance moved from the Fire House on Monroe Street to our new head quarters at
210 East Street where we are presently located.
Our building includes a full kitchen and
living quarters, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a conference room, a meeting room,
two offices and a training room.
